Database Integration and Content Management

Most websites now feature a contact form, which sends an email to the site owner containing details of an enquiry. The first phase of database integration is often to start automatically saving the details of users who make an enquiry to a database, which can then be used for marketing purposes (e.g. an e-newsletter or direct mail) at a later date. Databases can also be used to provide content for a website. In its simplest form this could be information that appears on several different pages, that is updated automatically each time the central database changes. In more complicated scenarios, databases can be used to provide search and display functionality e.g. "show me all 3 star hotels with a double en-suite room, available for 2 nights, from 21st July, non smoking." Databases also make it easy for non-technical users to update their own website, by providing "content management" facilities.

E-commerce Website Design

If you're already selling on the high street, the chances are you are losing money if you aren't selling online. Some companies initially choose just to display details of their products and make money from the extra phone calls and emails that follow - while in its more advanced form E-commerce takes database integration one step further, by allowing your business to upload a product database, and then take payment for orders online. This can potentially open up whole new markets, especially if you are happy to ship goods overseas, or over a great distance.
